Abstract
INHALED corticosteroids have provided a significant advance in the management of asthma. Their use is now recommended at a much earlier stage of the disease, coupled with a trend to prescribe higher doses.1-3 The increasing use of inhaled corticosteroids over extended periods raises important questions relating to their safety and the possibility of adverse systemic effects.4,5
