Abstract
When light is launched into either an optical fiber or a bulk glass rod, discrimination of scattered and absorbed energies is possible through the different thermokinetics of these phenomena. The design and performance of a differential calorimetric arrangement are presented and simultaneous measurements of the various loss coefficients are reported. At the present time, sensitivity is of the order of 1 dB/km and can be further improved. Keywords
