Abstract
Electron attachment has been studied in water vapour and ammonia over the rangeE/N=0-91 Td. It has been shown that attachment proceeds via the dissociative attachment process forE/Ngreater than 40 Td in water vapour and 30 Td in ammonia. With the use of published values of electron drift velocities for these gases the attachment rate coefficient has been calculated. No evidence for any low-energy three-body attachment processes was observed. Keywords
