The recombination of atoms V. Iodine atom recombination in nitric oxide

Abstract
The third-order rate constant for iodine atom recombination in nitric oxide is 3x10131.2mole-2s-1—much higher than that of any other chaperons which have been investigated. At high pressures of nitric oxide the recombination ratedecreasesand a transient absorption appears which we attribute to the molecule NOI. Extinction coefficients and equilibrium constants of this molecule have been determined and a quantitative account is given of the dependence of recombination rate on nitric oxide concentration over the whole pressure range.
