Abstract
Larvae of the velvetbean caterpillar, Anticarsia getnmatalis Hübner, were established on artificial diet and maintained under constant temperatures ranging from 10-37.8°C at ca. 5.5° intervals. Larval development occurred at temperatures between 13 and 36°C; lower and upper thresholds for egg hatch were 18 and 33°C, respectively. Daily survival was recorded by stage, and parameters describing the biotic potential of A. gemmatalis were calculated for cohorts held at 21.1, 26.7, and 32.2°C. The rate of increase was optimum at 26.7°C. Wing length of both laboratory-reared and field-collected moths decreased as temperature increased. Keywords
