Abstract
It is shown that a substance is present in the glands of the skin of this animal which in color and Rf value of the spot shows the same chromatographic behavior as samandarin. A comparison of the size of the spot on the paper chromatogram with that of samandarin shows that each animal contains about 10 gamma of the alkaloid. A usable infrared spectrum could not be obtained. In addition to the alkaloid in the glandular secretion, cholesterin and phenylalanine were obtained.
