Abstract
It is evident that with the evolution of psychiatry broader applications of the scientific information concerning the human personality which has been accumulated by study and research for the past 60 years will take place. It is inevitable that the psychiatrist will be required from time to time to give an opinion regarding the mental health of prominent public figures and that his report will become a part of contemporary history. Thus his responsibility in such matters is great. However, as in the case of the physician who examines public figures physically, the release of such data may be prohibited by its status as privileged information, and for the purpose of preserving the privacy of the individual; to this public figures are entitled as well as those who are less prominent or less in the public eye.
