The determination of trichloroacetic acid in urine

Abstract
Two methods are described, a semi-quantitative method with a possible error of about 25%, and a more quantitative photometric method with an avg. deviation of 5%. Both are based on the well known Fujiwara reaction. Attention is drawn to the effect of CO2 on the colored soln. The final method proposed is suitable for samples having a minimum concn. of 10 [mu]g. trichloroacetic acid/ml. Trichloroacetic acid appears in the urine as a result of trichloroethylene ingestion.
