Scale-violation effects in large-pTdirect photon production

Abstract
The contribution of the quantum-chromodynamic (QCD) perturbation diagrams q+gγ+q and q+q¯γ+g (where q,g,q¯ denote quark, gluon, antiquark) to large-pT direct γ production is studied in detail. It is shown that inclusion of QCD scale violations in the q, g, and q¯ distributions reduces the predicted yield for p+pγ+X by one order of magnitude. At s=53 GeV and pT10 GeV, with the experimental inclusive cross section E dσ(p+pπ0+X)d3p1036 cm2 GeV2, the contribution of these diagrams if found to give a ratio of γ to π0 of 5-15%.
