Abstract
This study compared differences in the levels of depression among three study groups of widows as measured by the Beck Depression Inventory and the Depression Adjective Checklist Form E and differences in the levels of socialization among the same three study groups as measured by the Revised Social Adjustment Scale. Levels of depression and socialization of each subject in the three study groups were measured at jive different testing intervals: at intake; at six weeks, after two of the three study groups received a group intervention, either bereavement crisis intervention or intervention consisting of group social activities; and at 3‐month, 9‐month and 12‐month intervals. The bereavement crisis intervention produced an initial drop in depression and increased social activity, which then stabilized. The three groups differed significantly; the group‐time interaction was also significant. Keywords
