Abstract
Eleven patients presenting with acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG) collected 24-hour urine samples during and after the course of their ANUG. The Porter-Silber technique was used to determine the 17-hydroxycorticosteroid concent of the urine, a physiological measure of stress. All of the patients had significantly higher levels of 17-hydroxycorticosteroid during the course of their ANUG than after it had resolved. Keywords
