Two cases with proptosis, oedema of the lid, ciliary flush, and oedema of the optic nerve associated with onchocer-ciasis are described, one being in a Gambian. It is suggested that the cause of the syndrome is an anaphylactic oedema caused by Onchocerca volvulus.
