Genetic control of susceptibility to experimental allergic neuritis and the immune response to P 2 protein

Abstract
Genetic control of susceptibility to experimental allergic neuritis (EAN) was investigated in three rat strains. EAN expression is high in the Lewis rat and low in the Brown Norwegian and Sprague-Dawley rat strains. The capacity to mount a significant cell-mediated response to the P, protein or peripheral nerve was associated with genetic susceptibility to EAN. Failure to mount a significant immune response to P, may be a critical factor in controlling expression of the disease.
