Abstract
The limitations of existing methods of testing for sulphur dioxido and sulphur trioxido are discussed, and a now method proposed whereby these constituents are absorbed under acid conditions. By absorption of sulphur trioxido in distilled water, absorption and subsequent oxidation of the dioxide are minimised, with a corresponding increase in accuraoy; sulphur dioxido is absorbed in hydrogen peroxide after removal of the trioxido. After absorption, the acidities of the absorbents are determined before and after oxidation; the sulphur contents are determined directly by the palmitato method. Some typical results obtained by new and old methods are tabulated. Keywords
