Abstract
Videorecording of patients symptomatic of pharyngoesophageal abnormalities is a high yield procedure (72.2 percent of 614 patients had one or more anatomic or physiologic laryngopharyngeal abnormalities). The short duration (one to three seconds per swallow) makes motion recording of the pharynx mandatory, since many anatomic abnormalities and most of the abnormal physiologic motions are not diagnosed without motion review. The availability of inexpensive videocassette player/recorders with pulse-frame (stop-framing) capabilities places videorecording within the budget of all radiology departments. Specific items of medical history and subjective patient complaints are more frequently associated with laryngopharyngeal dysfunction than objective items of physical examination. Keywords
