Abstract
The absorption of π mesons is considered to occur on a correlated nucleon pair in the nucleus (N). The proton-neutron pair absorbs a π meson leaving the residual nucleus (N-2) behind. This process gives information about the momentum distribution of the center of mass of the proton-neutron pair with respect to that of other nucleons of the nucleus. The information about the momentum distribution is also studied by the (p, pd) reaction. The similarity of the expression of the absorption of the stopped π- meson by C12 to that of the C12(p, pd) reaction is shown when the residual nucleus B10 is left in low-lying states. It is also shown that a knocked-out deuteron at the zero momentum transfer in the C12(p, pd) reaction and two neutrons emitted at the angle of 180° to each other in the C12(π-, 2n) reaction are hardly observed when the residual nucleus B10 is left in the ground and first excited states. Keywords
