Abstract
A detailed study of the fluorescence and phosphorescence characteristics of morphine, diamorphine (heroin), and a number of morphine derivatives has been undertaken. Fluorescence decay times have been determined where appropriate by using a time-correlated single photon counting technique. The effect on intersystem crossing rate of a heavy atom substituent in the chromophore has been investigated. Keywords
