Abstract
Forty freshly caught V. ammodytes ammodytes were inoculated orally or subcutaneously with virulent suspensions of Salmonella sofia, S. kottbus, Ar. 18 (O-form) and Ar. 9: 26: 21. Orally infected snakes became permanent carriers without showing any organ localization or formation of agglutinins. Subcutaneous injection of Arizona serotype 18 (O-form) proved lethal. The other strains could be isolated during the whole experimental period from the contents of the gut, from the liver and from blood. The sera contained specific agglutinins.
