Abstract
SEVERAL of the preceding Seminars in Medicine of the Beth Israel Hospital have exemplified the fact that during the past decade medicine has advanced from a firm foundation of morphology and physiology toward a deeper comprehension based upon the contribution of molecular biology. Appreciation of both normal function and many pathologic states is now supported by biologic principles that are close to or at the molecular level.
