BEHAVIOUR AND MOOD CYCLES APPARENTLY RELATED TO PARATHYROID DEFICIENCY

Abstract
An attempt was made to discover if any endocrine and chemical conditions may be related to the cycloid personality and manic-depressive insanity. A woman of 56 with this disorder was found to suffer from a parathyroid deficiency; abnormal mood variation ceased after Ca therapy was administered. Further studies were made with parathyroidectomized monkeys, and the results were quite similar to those with the human subject.
