The Zero Point of Charge of Cassiterite

Abstract
The zero point of charge (ZPC) of cassiterite was investigated by measuring the electrophoretic mobility, solution equilibrium, and flotation response as a function of solution pH. The ZPC was shown to lie at pH 2. The potential determining ions for cassiterite are H+ and OH.The effect of anionic and cationic collectors on the zeta potential of the mineral is studied. Mechanisms of charge development at the cassiterite ‐water interface are discussed. The preferential hydrolysis of surface ions or the adsorption, at the interface of the complexes formed in solution, appears to play an important part in establishing the surface charge.
