Abstract
Strokes occurring in persons 15-65 yr of age (population 300,000) have been registered since 1970 in Goteborg, Sweden. From 1971 to 1974, 640 patients were registered and followed for at least 1 yr. Coexisting cardio-cerebrovascular diseases were more frequent in the stroke patients than in random samples of the population of Goteborg of similar ages for each sex. At 3 wk the degree of neurological deficit and type of stroke were decisive for prognosis, while the presence of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases influenced fatality rates negatively at 1 yr.Keywords
