Abstract
An aqueous, microcrystalline suspension of the trimethylacetate ester of desoxycorticosterone was utilized in the maintenance treatment of 45 patients with chronic adrenal cortical insufficiency. Intramusc. injn. of this compound produces effective electrolyte regulation, as demonstrated by metabolic balance studies, within 24-48 hrs. ; the duration of action of a single intramusc. dose ranges from 4 to 8 weeks, with an avg. duration of 5-6 wks. Optimal therapeutic control, however, is obtained by injn. of maintenance doses at 30-day intervals. This schedule was demonstrated to provide excellent control of body wt., blood pressure, hydration and cardiovascular function. Keywords
