Abstract
This study assessed the economic impact of tourism on the economy of metropolitan Victoria by estimating the multiplier effect of tourist spending on the generation of income, sales, employment, government revenue, and imports. Specifically, differential tourist multipliers for nonresident and resident overnight visitors, as well as day-trippers, were calculated in order to examine the relative contributions of each group to the local economy. The study also estimated the accommodation and non-accommodation components of direct household income and direct employment and examined the effect of incremental changes in leakages and import content on the multipliers and on household income.
