Abstract
Electronic Raman scattering and absorption spectra are presented which allow an interpretation of the vibronic structure of the Γ8g (2 T 1g ) excited electronic state of IrF6 at 1·6 μ. Large splittings and shifts are observed for the Jahn-Teller active v 2 (eg ), v 5 (t 2g ), and 2v 5 vibrations. From these spectra linear (D 2 and D 5) and quadratic (Q 2 [a 1g ], Q 2 [eg ], Q 5 [a 1g ], Q 5 [t 2g ]) Jahn-Teller parameters can be determined. These data are compared with parameters previously obtained for the ReF6 ground state and the IrF6 Γ8g (2 T 2g ) state at 0·6 μ.Keywords
