Abstract
The exarate pupae of the Trichoptera have certain features—particularly of the mandibles and the dorsal hook‐bearing plates and anal processes of the abdomen—which are diagnostic at the family level. These features are described, illustrated, and keyed out for the families represented in New Zealand. Other characters, such as the form and construction of the pupal shelter, are included in the descriptions.
