Abstract
The appetites of eighty-seven normal rats, allowed their choice of sucrose, casein, hydrogenated fat, and salts, are described. Thirty-four of these animals failed to grow. The animals could be separated into two groups on the basis of their appetites for casein. The appetites of these animals, aside from that for salts and calories, showed no apparent relation to physiologic or nutritional need. Keywords
