Abstract
The North American Lucanidae are divided into four subfamilies: Aesalinae, Syndesinae, Nicaginae, and Lucaninae, and a key is presented to the subfamilies, tribes, and genera. Subfamily characters are briefly described with a more detailed account of the Aesalinae, including Aesalus Fabricius and Lucanobium squamosum n. gen., n. sp., from Venezuela. Keywords
