Abstract
Seven outpatients, 6 suffering from epilepsy and 1 from trigeminal neuralgia, treated with CBZ [carbamazepine] alone or in combination with phenobarbitone, received PRX [propoxyphene] hydrochloride capsules, 65 mg 3.times. a day. Two patients stopped PRX intake after 2 days due to severe side effects. Of the remaining patients, 3 had symptoms and signs of drug intoxication. Blood samples were examined by TLC. An increased (45-775) CBZ plasma level was found in all patients on combined treatment of CZB and PRX. There were no significant changes in CBZ-10,11-epoxide level. An inhibition of CBZ metabolism when CBZ and PRX are administered simultaneously is suggested. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
