Abstract
Radiographic findings of laryngotracheitis (viral croup) are reviewed, with emphasis on the dynamic changes in the upper airways observed on the lateral neck radiographs. These dynamic changes consist of overdistention of the hypopharynx and narrowing of the cervical trachea in inspiration, and ballooning of the cervical trachea with a variable appearance of the hypopharynx in expiration. They are a reflection of the laryngeal subglottic obstruction caused by inflammatory edema characteristic of the disease.
