A sensitive assay for the hemoglobin content of young developing chick blastodiscs

Abstract
A method for assay of hemoglobin based on the peroxidase activity of the heme group was developed. The assay was sensitive to 1 × 10−2 to 2 × 10−2 μg of hemoglobin and gave a linear relationship between intensity of color developed and quantity of hemoglobin in the range 0–5 μg.With young blastodiscs of the stages of development of interest incubated on selected experimental media, the method was essentially absolutely specific for hemoglobin.
