Abstract
Dispersion relation for transverse waves in a fully ionized plasma in the presence of a spatially uniform field E0 cos vt has been obtained and the possibility of instabilities has been discussed. It has been shown that the analysis also gives the Dawson‐Oberman formula for the force of an ion on the electrons for the uncoupled longitudinal field. Keywords
