Purity of He(23S) beams produced by coaxial electron impact sources

Abstract
Under certain operating conditions a helium metastable atom source based on coaxial electron impact excitation is observed to produce a beam that comprises principally fast neutral, rather than metastable, atoms. Implications of this are discussed.Keywords
