Abstract
A new system of dental identification and its components, a Radiographic Disclosure Pin, and a Personal Dental Identifier, are described. The concept of the new system and the placement of the components are illustrated from an on-going clinical study. This new system appears to have the potential to eliminate most of the limitations of the current AM-PM comparison system and become a useful adjunct to forensic odontology. There is only one successful system of dental identification in use today. There are four steps to this system, namely; examining the oral region, preparing postmortem records, securing antemortem records, comparing antemortem with postmortem records. Each step is encumbered by certain limitations that add to the complexity of this system and increase the time requirements to achieve an identification. The limitations are enumerated and examined in relation to the proposed new system.
