Limitations in long haul IM/DD optical fibre systems caused by chromatic dispersion and nonlinear Kerr effect

Abstract

The power penalty induced by dispersion, Kerr nonlinearity and attenuation is numerically investigated for long haul IM/DD systems with cascaded optical amplifiers. We demonstrate that the eye opening is critically dependant on the input mean power.
