Abstract
1‐Alkoxy‐2‐amino‐4‐nitrobenzenes are prepared by reduction of 1‐alkoxy‐2:4‐dinitro‐benzenes with sodium disulphide in aqueous solution instead of in the appropriate alcohols with a corresponding economy in the use of the latter. J. J. Blanksma and P. W. M. van der Weyden, This Journal 59, 629 (1940). This can be accomplished without difficulty because the alkoxy group in the 1‐alkoxy‐2‐amino‐4‐nitrobenzenes is so slightly reactive that it is not replaced by hydroxyl during the reduction.
