Abstract
Doses of 2-10 g. of various alkylamine hydrochlorides were fed to human subjects and the amines excreted were isolated and identified as the picrolonates. The % excreted in the urine in the 24 hrs. after adm., and the m. p. of the picrolonates, were for methylamine, 1.74-1.93%, 267[degree]; dimethylamine, 91.5%, 244[degree]; diethylamine, 86.4%, 262[degree]; ethylamine, 31.1%, 253.5[degree]; n-propylamine, 9.5%, 2355[degree]; n-butylamine, 1.95%, 204[degree]; iso-butylamine, 14.9%, 212[degree]. Adm. of sarcosine and betaine did not increase the volatile amines in the urine. Secondary alkylamines formed during metabolism constitute most of the volatile alkylamines normally present in the urine.
