Abstract
The optical absorption spectrum of NiF2 is reported for the paramagnetic and antiferromagnetic states. A prominent satellite appears in the 3A2→1E transition below the Néel temperature. This new line is explained in terms of the interaction of the excited Ni2+ ion with its six antiparallel Ni2+ neighbors. Keywords
