Abstract
Measurements of tetraalkyl lead (TAL) and particulate lead in the atmosphere were made at various sites in Glasgow. Near central Glasgow the average 24‐hour TAL concentration was 32 ng m−3, maximum 77 ng m−3, with a mean TAL/total lead ratio of 6.3%. The daytime TAL content, maximum 144 ng m−3, greatly exceeded overnight levels. The urban concentrations of both TAL and particulate lead declined with increasing altitude, exhibiting mean decreases of 29% and 36% respectively between 3m and 12m above street level. At a rural site, 24‐hour TAL levels averaged only 3.9 ng m−3.Keywords
