Abstract
A model of neighbor ions interactions in polyelectrolytes is treated, in which it is assumed that a fixed ion inserted between two other fixed ions acts as a screen, so that two fixed ions may interact only if there are no other fixed ions inserted between them. It is shown that the effect of screening is to increase the buffering capacity at higher degrees of ionization. The results of the present model are compared with those of other models of neighbor interactions.
