Abstract
Data collected by Brekke et al. (1993) on the symptomatology, psychosocial functioning, and subjective experience of schizophrenia outpatients were reanalyzed using LISREL to elucidate a causal model that would depict the functional relationships between the variables. The model that best fit the data parallels another model tested previously on cardiac patients and shows that subjective experience is much more influenced by symptomatology than by social functioning. This confirms Brekke et al.'s main finding. The implications of these results for intervention and for future research are considered.Keywords
