Intracerebroventricular administration of bombesin inhibits biliary and gastric secretion in the rat

Abstract
The effect of intracerebroventricular (ICV) bombesin on bile and gastric acid secretion was examined in the rat. ICV bombesin (10 μg in 10 μl) inhibited basal biliary volume by 27% and bile bicarbonate by 52% of control values, while gastric acid secretion was decreased by 75%. These results provide evidence for central mechanisms for the control of gastrointestinal function.
