Abstract
Advances in hospital care of the elderly have led to an urgent demand on these services, and Cosin (2) has pointed out that it has often been necessary to provide them before their most practical uses have been evaluated. As Townsend (11) observes, some beds are occupied by patients who should have been in a different hospital unit more fitting to their particular type of disability.Keywords
