Increased age-related concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls in four male patients with Ewing's sarcoma

Abstract
Concentrations of the organochlorines PCBs, p , p -DDE and hexachlorobenzene in adipose tissue from four male patients with Ewing's sarcoma were analysed. For comparison nine male and nine female surgical patients without a malignant disease were used. The concentrations of these chemicals tend to increase by age. Since the Ewing's sarcoma patients were younger than the subjects in the comparison group, multivariate statistics were used to compare these patients with the control group. Using partial least squares to latent variable, higher age-related concentrations were seen in the Ewings's sarcoma patients than in the comparison group. This difference was explained by some specific PCB congeners.
