Abstract
Fossil bones of the king shag, Leucocarbo carunculatus, are reported from the late Holocene dune deposits of Tokerau Beach, Doubtless Bay, Northland, in the North Island of New Zealand. These fossils indicate that the present distribution is a relict one, and that the species’ range contracted after Polynesian colonists arrived in New Zealand. Keywords
