Scattering of Neutrons fromO16in the 2.2- to 4.2-MeV Energy Range

Abstract
We have measured the differential cross sections for scattering of neutrons from at some 14 energies between 2.2- and 4.2-MeV neutron energy by detecting scattered neutrons. In the vicinity of the 3.77-MeV peak in the total cross section of , we redetermined the total cross section with a 5-keV energy spread. From a phase-shift analysis of our data and other data taken from the literature, we assign resonance parameters for seven states of between 7.30- and 8.21-MeV excitation energy as follows (in order: excitation energy of , value, parity, and reduced width in single-particle units : 7.30 (, 0.23), 7.67 (, 0.07), 7.691 (, 0.03), 7.694 (, 0.001), 7.91 (½-,0.02), 8.08 (, 0.03), and 8.21 (, 0.01). Our finding the narrow state at 7.694 MeV has removed a difficulty in resonance-parameter assignment at the 3.77-MeV neutron energy peak in the total cross section of .
