Abstract
We show that the leading correction to the impulse approximation may be calculated if we know only the two-particle scattering amplitude. For the case of liquid helium we show explicitly how the momentum condensate is asymmetrically broadened by the interaction of the recoiling helium atom with the liquid. Keywords
