Abstract
C60 and C70 in 3‐nitrobenzyl alcohol and 2‐nitrophenyloctylether have been investigated using both positive‐ and negative‐ion fast‐atom bombardment spectrometry. In addition to the ions, MH+, MO+ and MOH+, and corresponding MH−, MO− and MOH− ions (MC60, C70) other ions were observed in the positive‐ and negative‐ion mass spectra. Collision‐induced dissociations of the MO+ and MOH+ ions produced the fullerene ions, indicating that the oxygen and hydroxyl were connected to the convex external surface of the fullerenes. Keywords
