Abstract
Turbulent cross-isohaline salt fluxes in the Baltic proper are studied with the aid of a one-dimensional “advection-diffusion” model. The theoretical framework of this model has been outlined by Walin. It is based on time-averaged T-S data from both the inflow and interior regions of the Baltic. The results obtained are in good agreement with some estimates of the mixing properties in the region. Based on this investigation, a discussion of the properties of the model and its applicability to a real estuarine system is performed. DOI: 10.1111/j.1600-0870.1985.tb00272.x
