Abstract
In endolymphatic hydrops the menbran-ous labyrinth displays manifold deformities of its walls. These comprise extensions of the dilated parts into areas not usually occupied by them, circumscribed outpouchings of the walls with and without disruption of the inner layers of the walls, complete ruptures of the walls, partial or complete collapse of the affected structures. Deformities of the walls of the membranous structures often interfere with the normal function of the sensory endorgans (maculae, cristae ampullares). Circumscribed thin-walled outpouchings are not necessarily healed ruptures. They are more likely to be brought about by ballooning of weak points of labyrinthine walls or of their outer layers after the inner layers had ruptured.
